military time is a way of telling time in which the hours range from 00 to 23 instead of the standard 1 to 12. Standard time that is used by civilians goes through 12pm and 12am each day, whereas military time only has one midday mark which is known as 'noon'. This means that when it's 12pm according to civilian time, military personnel read this as 1200 hours.
In military terminology, there is a 24-hour clock system in place for keeping track of all events and activities within the armed forces. With this system, midnight would be referred to as 0000 hours and noon will be read 1200 hours. Unlike civilian time which requires people to distinguish between morning and evening, this specialized system takes out the confusion completely.
Military personnel also use different words for describing times between midnight to noon such as:
• 0001 - O-one hundred and one (O-one-oh-one)
• 0547 -Zero five forty seven (Zero five four seven)
• 0935 - Zero Nine Thirty Five (Zero Nine Three Five)
• 1200 – Twelve Hundred Hours (Twelve Hundred)
The use of military time gives more accuracy to members of the military and allows them to easily calculate their operations without having to worry about whether it's morning or evening. As a result, Military personnel are able to respond quickly during an emergency event without having any confusion over when it happened.
